For John’s birthday, I bought him tickets for day 3 of the Boxing Day test at the MCG, Australia vs The West Indies. He had mentioned for quite some time he wanted to go for a stadium tour, but as there was a cricket match on whilst we were there I thought it would be something nice to look forward too after his birthday.
We packed and picnic and took the tube (although at the time we didn’t realise it was walkable) to the MCG. John was very eager to get inside and take our seats ready for some cricket action.
The size of the stadium was incredibly impressive and although it was barely 1/4 full there was still enough noise to make an impact.
I’ve never attended cricket before, so for a lot of the match John was explains the rules and what was happening, but I enjoyed the day and I think I would go back and watch another match (John thinks I would enjoy 20/20).
The first half of the match was freezing, but as the sun swept around the stadium in the afternoon we soon warmed up and enjoyed the last few hours soaking up the sun. Although that evening we did have faces like tomatoes as we were fried by the Rays!
The match continued for an additional 30 minutes before Australia Bowled out the West Indies and play was over for the day.
The Rod Laver Arena is a stones throw from the MCG, so we had a quick explore around there and took some pictures before we caught the tube home.
